Makeover Monday

1. Name ,Age,Location
My name is Martyca Christian. i am 23 years old and I am from Philadelphia,PA.

2. What inspired you to become a stylist?
I used to do my own hair in high school because my mom couldn't do hair. (defeating the purpose that she has 2 daughters). i just started to get more interested in in when in college experimenting on my friends as well as myself and really enjoyed it. So after working at a job paying good money for two years and having a child i realized i wanted to do something that was going to make me happy. No one wants to go to work and not enjoy what they do so i took the steps and enrolled into Empire Beauty School.

3.How do you feel about the negative attention "kitchen stylist" recieve vs salon stylists ?
I don't let the negativity get to me that much. Sometimes when I see people say things like " I'm not leaning over anyone's kitchen sink to get my hair washed" I do feel like defending myself and saying something but I choose not too because i have a clientele of 20+ who don't mind leaning over my kitchen sink. And i don't knock any salon stylists but I'd rather lean over a kitchen sink than to have an appt at 9 am, stylist not get there until 11, and don't leave until 4.

4. How long have you been doing hair?

.I have been doing hair since high school probably about 10th grade (2005) starting with cornrows, curls, and weave ponytails. Closer to 12th grade i played around with weave caps, and in my sophomore year in college (2009) i did my first sew in.

5. Post pics of your work

6. Where can the viewers see your work?
Viewers can see my work on Instagram @Martyca_Styles on Facebook under Martyca Styles and on YouTube under LovelyMartyca.

African Fashion Week 2013

I finally got the opportunity to be a stylist for African Fashion Week in New York City.  I always had the passion for fashion and hair, but it was always for main stream. When I finally got the call to work with  celebrity make-up artist Renarda Joy I was over excited but also nervous, well who wouldn't be. I knew I could master a cut slay a weave but a huge fashion show I wasn't to confident about that. When I finally got back stage I felt like a kid going to F.A.O Schwarz eyes wide and sparkling. I t was about 8 makeup artists and 8 stylists, some who had already been in the industry for years with celeb clients and all , and I Kendra Williamson was rubbing elbows with the best. Thankfully the vision they were going for wasn't that hard to master.

A week later I got asked to come back to work with a select few to do an Africa Based TV show. I was to excited and I felt like I had arrived. This time we only worked with 5 models and it was great to see my work on the screen. All in all I love working in the salon making woman Konceited but runway is calling my name. (This is a clip from the show of the models we styled) Enjoy!!!!!
